Patrick Duhamel attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular on its opening night in Montreal last night for a reason.

What reason?

"I go out with a Chinese girl. This is the way I learn about Chinese culture. I must learn about it," he explained.

Duhamel works for the government in the income tax area. He enjoyed a "really great" show and especially liked the drumming.

The show "is new, not something you see everyday," he said, referring to the Spectacular's expression of "the roots of Chinese culture."

He praised the "simplicity" and "beauty" of the performances.

About the large-scale dances, "I am sure it is quite hard to do the moves. It is not one piece that is great. It is simply all the pieces together, that is great together," he remarked.

It also appealed to Duhamel that "it is not like the communist China we are seeing but simply the traditional China, the roots of China."

He understood from the show that Chinese culture goes back thousands of years in the past, and that "China is not communism," but "a country by itself."

"I think [the Spectacular ] is something great to go to with my girlfriend," said Duhamel.
