The Chinese Divine Performing Arts "Chinese New Year Spectacular" earned its name in Montreal last night.
The Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts in Montreal played host to the show. The evening began with a VIP reception attended by politicians, business leaders, and a museum director.
"Spectacular!" shouted Crystal Baran during intermission. Baran, who works at the Bank of Montreal, said she had not expected such a well-presented show. She learned a great deal about Chinese culture and especially enjoyed the performance of traditional Tibetan dance.
Baran also found all the pieces very animated and described the interaction between the host and hostess as "simply magic," with the Western host speaking English and Mandarin Chinese, and the Chinese hostess speaking French.
"It's a show that I would recommend to all!" she concluded.
For M. Raja, who was born in Lebanon and now lives in Montreal, the show was very "original."
"My favourite performance was the drums. I really loved it!" he said.
Audience feedback emphasized the beauty and originality of the show. According to the show goers, the "Spectacular" brings them into a dream.
The "Chinese New Year Spectacular" will play at Place des Arts in Montreal again Jan. 16 and Jan. 17. The show's next stop will be Toronto. Featuring Divine Performing Arts, the "Spectacular" is a grand showcase of traditional Chinese culture.
