LOS ANGELES—The Weinstein Co., the film and TV company run by media moguls Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob Weinstein, has reached an agreement that would allow striking Hollywood writers to return to work for the company, a company spokesman said on Thursday.

A formal deal is expected to be signed and announced by the end of the day, spokesman Matthew Frankel told Reuters.

The deal is the second such agreement reached by an independent film and television maker with striking members of the Writers Guild of America in their ongoing labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

Earlier this week Tom Cruise's film company, United Artists, also reached an agreement with the WGA members that would allow writers to work for that company, and Frankel said the Weinstein agreement is similar to the United Artists deal.
