Trade, human and energy security, plus climate change are the main topics that APEC Ministeria will be passing to their leaders for discussion over the weekend in Sydney.
The conclusion of the Ministerial meetings has resulted in a joint statement that includes commitment to Doha, free trade agreements, anti-corruption, food and product safety, and greater transparency in the region.
"We will work actively in APEC to create greater prosperity in the region," the statement said.
New Zealand Trade Minister Phil Goff said the meeting went "very smoothly", especially the talks about the Doha Round that had been stalled.
"We would now each instruct our WTO representatives in Geneva to work together as an APEC caucus to support the process."
Although no agreements reached at APEC are legally binding, Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer said the Ministerial meeting was "highly productive".
"The wide-ranging discussion of human security issues...reflects the recognition in APEC that security and economic prosperity cannot be separated from each other."
The statement said threats from terrorism, natural disasters, contamination of the food supply and pandemics, such as avian influenza, have the potential to undermine efforts to sustain economic growth, raise living standards and reduce poverty in the region.
The flurry of bilaterals held between the main events of APEC have provided the more tangible results of the week in Sydney.
Both President Hu and President Putin brought their cheque books to Australia, with the former signing an $45bn deal for gas and the latter a uranium deal.
Membership in APEC has also been raised, the inclusion of India being the central economy to be discussed.
"The sense I have got at this stage amongst most countries is that they would prefer an extension of the moratorium rather than an expansion of the organisation," Mr Goff said.
The APEC grouping makes up 56 percent of global GDP.
'Strengthening our community, building a sustainable future' is the theme for this years APEC in Sydney.
