Album Review: The Maccabees—'Colour It In'

(Fiction)

Another day, another release from British bright young things with hyperactive post-punk stylings. But don't switch off just yet, for this album from Brighton-based Londoners The Maccabees really rises above the run of the mill. Featuring a slew of anthemic singles each of which is guaranteed to have you howling along with pleasure, this album is a genuine delight from start to finish, and it features a lyrical eccentricity which is very refreshing. 'Latchmere' is a hook laden tribute to a South London leisure centre, and tracks such as 'Precious Time' and 'First Love' tackle the familiar subject of young love in a new and surprisingly touching way.

**** (Four stars out of five)
