A Magical Evening

Award-winning magician and world-renowned slight of hand artist Eric DeCamps returns to New York with a new show titled, "An Evening of Intimate Magic" at the Lincoln Room in Rockefeller Center. In DeCamps' hands, ordinary objects become extraordinary.

DeCamps has been performing for more than 30 years and has been voted "Magician of the Year" by The Society of American Magicians. He is the second person in the 105-year history of the organization to receive the prestigious Gold Medal of Excellence for Close Up Magic.

DeCamps' performances are filled with compelling stories and visual artistry. Mr. DeCamps has developed a style of intimate conjuring that permits his audience to become part of the performance. Familiar objects like a champagne glass, a few silver dollars, a piece of tissue paper, a silk cord and a deck of cards are a few of the many objects that share the stage with him. And, at every turn, he performs the seemingly impossible.

Mr. DeCamps has been a serious student of the art of magic for over 30 years. He served his apprenticeship at New York's Magic Towne House. Later he performed regularly at the celebrated Greenwich Village nightclub, Mostly Magic, for more than 12 years. In recent years, he has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, and South America at exclusive society events.

No Laughing Matter

Though a gala benefit like the National Yiddish Theatre-Folksbiene's annual gala is no laughing matter, this one may be a scream. Proceeds will support the theatre.

The benefit, "Laugh: Doctor's Orders!" stars a cavalcade of comedians, comedy writers, and musical theatre ensembles from Broadway and the Yiddish stage, television, and the backrooms of joke factories from L.A. to Monticello. The evening's line-up includes Mickey Freeman (The Sgt. Bilko Show's Pvt. Zimmerman), the Emmy-winning stage and television star Fyvush Finkel, Catskills comedy legend Freddie Roman, and this year's comedy sensation Judy Gold. Emceeing is the noted television wordsmith Carol Leifer (Seinfeld, The Larry Sanders Show, numerous Oscar telecasts). The gala will be at Town Hall, 123 West 43rd Street, on Wednesday June 13 at 8 p.m.
