Virginia Tech Tragedy Touches Washington, D.C. Area

CENTREVILLE, VA—The Virginia Tech massacre afflicted the lives of people from across the U.S. and from around the world, including Peru, India, Egypt, Indonesia, and Puerto Rico.

The tragedy touched a community in Northern Virginia especially hard. Erin Peterson and Reema Samaha were both 18 when they were shot and killed at Virginia Tech on April 16. They and the shooter, Seung-Hui Cho, all attended Westfield High School in Chantilly, Virginia.

Among the 32 people who were killed by the shooter, at least three more are from Northern Virginia:
* Maxine Turner, 22, from Vienna, VA.
* Mary Karen Read, 19, from Annandale, VA.
* Leslie G. Sherman, from Springfield, VA.
