The Chinese New Year Spectacular played in Chicago to enthusiastic crowds on Saturday.

Some drove hundreds of miles for the chance to see the show.

Mr. Roger Lee is the Chairman of the Minnesota Chinese Social Service Center. He said, "The show is very good. The performances were done true to the Chinese culture. We drove all the way from Minnesota to catch the show, and it was definitely worth the eight hour drive in the snow."

Another person who traveled a long way to see the Spectacular was high school student Ms. Jayna Hoehouse of Columbus, Ohio. She says that she "am grateful to have witnessed such artistry."

Ms. Annette Dixon did not travel so far, hailing from the suburbs south of Chicago where she is publisher fo the Village View newspaper. She thought the show was "wonderful." She also praised the lyrics of the songs, saying that they "mean a lot to me." She found the show as a whole to portray "universal themes, such as the love of nature and peace with the universe." The show also opened a new range of experience for Ms. Dixon. She reports that her "mother loved Asian culture, but I didn't like it, until now."

Mr. Mike Davidson is an engineer who was moved by the show to ask about the persecution of Falun Gong—one act in the show portrays a Falun Gong practitioner being killed in China for being true to her beliefs. Mr. Davidson simply said, "I don't understand the persecution. We don't have any problems here. Why should they have persecution in China?"
