Canberra's premier theatre buzzed with anticipation as distinguished guests and local theatre goers prepared for the second night of NTDTV's Chinese Spectacular. The Spectacular had played to a full house the night before and, with plenty of coverage from local media, the word had definitely gone around.

Adults and children had dressed for the occasion but could not compete with the beautifully costumed girls as they glided through the foyer directing guests and highlighting the programmes.

Unable to contain their curiosity, federal, state and local government members joined the throng.

Federal MP Wilson Tuckey, speaking during intermission, said the show had lived up to all of his expectations.

"I knew I was going to enjoy it from all the information flying around the place," he said. "I was most impressed.

"The costumes were magnificent, the music—very impressive."

Federal Attorney General, Philip Ruddock, said he had enjoyed it—all the scenes.

"It's hard to say which one is my favourite—they were all beautiful"

Zed Seselja, the local Liberal MLA, said he had enjoyed it all too but particularly liked the "Mongolian Bowl Dance."

In this scene, hosts and guests at a Mongolian feast, dance ever so gracefully with bowls balanced on their heads. The scenes are further enhanced by costumes supplied by the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission in Taiwan.

"I enjoyed the bowl dance—it was quite spectacular. I thought the ladies were very flexible and I was wondering, with the bowls, whether anything would spill out.

"All the women were very beautiful".

Kay Stares, Promotions Manager of The Waldorf Apartments, said the show had lived up to its name.

"I found it absolutely spectacular—I think it is probably one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen."

Ms Stares said she was very interested in Asian culture and has a comprehensive collection of Asian artefacts. All the scenes accordingly held an interest for her.

"I was really interested in all the scenes," she said, "very different, very unique"

"It has just done so well," Ms Stares said, "it is an amazing production."

The NTDTV Chinese Spectacular has extended its global shows to more screenings in New Zealand, Korea and Taiwan with the Divine Performing Arts group who are the artistic force behind New Tang Dynasty Television's Holiday Wonders and Chinese New Year Spectacular shows each year. Its mission is to rediscover the essence of true, traditional culture and to bring arts to the world that celebrate human dignity and positive values. It produces and performs works that center on classical themes and divinely-inspired cultural traditions. The group's performances aim to provide an experience of consummate beauty and goodness.
