The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular—a showcase of traditional Chinese artistry from New Tang Dynasty's Divine Performing Arts Troupe—concluded its tour of Asia with an exciting performance in Japan. After witnessing the performance in Tokyo, Japanese Congressman Ichimura Koichiro said that he hoped the show could initiate a cultural rebirth in his country, and anticipates the performance's return to Japan.
Ichimura said that he was very happy to see the NTDTV's Spectacular in its first Japanese performance. "This performance allowed me to once again experience the multiplicity of traditional Chinese culture, its benefit to the rest of the world, and the vibrant play of color. I am truly happy that we are given this opportunity."
Ichimura said, "All the performances were marvelous, especially the beautiful dancing. These various ethnic dances opened a new horizon to me. The colorful costumes, the dancers' poise and movement…it is indeed a perfect art as described by the host. I hope this kind of performance will definitely come to Japan again next year."
Immediately following the performance, Ichimura said with mixed emotions, "The Japanese islands was once a country where many ethnic groups lived together in peace and harmony. Their cultures blended with each other and formed many good things. Later it gradually homogenized into a country with a single ethnic group. How wonderful it would be if Japan could be reborn through this performance!"
Ichimura imagined that there must have been many difficulties to develop an independent media outlet like NTDTV, but hopes their efforts will continue. He believes that the values they are spreading are very important.
Ichimura Koichiro was born in 1964 in Kyushu, Japan. He graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Hitotsubashi University in 1988, and later from the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management in 1993, becoming chief researcher of Japan's New Party that same year. In 1995, as bureau chief for the Japanese House, Ichimura played a major role in raising NPO related bills in parliament. In 1999, he became the Democratic Party of Japan's Representative from Hyogo 6th District, and in November 2003, he was elected a member of the House of Representatives. He is now a member of the Cabinet Committee.
