WASHINGTON—A strong 5.7 magnitude quake hit Northern Chile Wednesday, just two hours after a powerful 7.7 hit the same area, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
It said the quake, 25.5 miles deep, was centered 36 miles northwest of the town of Antofagasta and struck at 1744 GMT.
The second quake was initially reported at 6.0 magnitude by the agency and later verified at 5.7.
