New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) will host its "First International Chinese Vocal Competition" from October 15 to 17, 2007 in New York's Kaufmann Concert Hall. NTDTV spokeswoman Ms. Hong Kaili said the contestants represent many countries and a large diverse population. They are also very professional and outstanding vocalists.
So far, over a hundred professional vocalists from 19 countries and regions have registered for this competition. Competitors include people from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Germany, Britain, Greece, the Netherlands, Spain, Argentina, Norway, Canada, Australia and more than 20 cities from the United States.
Hong stated that this vocal competition is another cultural event to follow up the "International Chinese Dance Competition." The aim of these competitions is to promote orthodox arts and intercultural communication. It also provides an international stage for those outstanding vocalists and creates a common aspiration to open up a new era of beauty through orthodox vocal arts.
President of the Judges' Committee for this competition, Mr. Guan Guimin said that NTDTV is constantly making miracles by using its unique intrinsic spirit. This International Chinese Vocal Competition is unprecedented. Most of the contestants are international-level vocalists. It will no doubt set a high precedence on the world stage and for Chinese people in Western mainstream societies. It has far-reaching effects for every Chinese vocalist's personal development.
Guan said that there are so many overseas Chinese talents, but they are all living around the world. This competition is providing an international stage to vocal teachers in professional arts institutions, professional actors and students to display their abilities to audiences seeking such a high caliber performance.
Guan said that the judges' committee is composed of experienced singers. The types of vocal works will include Chinese traditional, folk and classical songs, theme songs from TV dramas and movies, and arias and other artistic works.
Guan emphasized that this competition is to promote the traditional vocal arts with pure authenticity and goodness to show the beauty and elegance of orthodox vocal arts. Modern rock songs and any other type of popular songs are not within the scope of these vocal works. Neither shall they glorify the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or any of its affiliates.
