VANCOUVER , British Columbia—A three-year-old girl was the sole survivor of a plane crash in Canada's Rocky Mountains, apparently because she was strapped in a child restraint seat, police said Monday.
Rescuers found the girl Sunday in the wreckage of the plane that went down in a wilderness area near Golden, British Columbia, while on a flight to Edmonton, Alberta. The girl's grandfather and another man died in the crash.
The girl had been secured in the aircraft's back seat using a child safety seat, and that saved her from suffering serious injuries, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.
Military rescuers were searching for another missing aircraft when the girl's plane crashed in rough weather shortly after takeoff from Golden. It took emergency crews about three hours using helicopters to reach the wreckage in a rugged area.
