Myanmar natives, students, prisoners of conscience, and other concerned citizens gathered at the Chinese embassy to make demands to the government of China. They chanted loudly, "China, China. Wake up! China, stop supporting the Myanmar junta! We reject murder."

In their speeches, orators emphasized that the people of the world have been horrified witnessing the ruthless cruelty and atrocities executed by the military government in Myanmar. There, as Buddhist monks and students engaged in peaceful protests, they were shot in the streets of Rangoon and Mandalay. Many people were killed on the spot, hundreds are still missing.

The bloody history of 1988 Burma (currently referred to as Myanmar) is being repeated today. Voices of people in Myanmar, loud and pure, call for democratic change and a peaceful dialogue.

Only international support can help Myanmar achieve democratic change. For many years, communist China has engaged in the support of the military regime in Burma. Along with supplying it with weapons while holding Burma in economic bondage, China also provided diplomatic protection for the ruthless junta for 45 years. Those who gathered at the Chinese embassy sent the following demands to the communist government of China:

Stop supplying weapons to the army of Myanmar!

Stop training the Myanmar military in Chinese military institutes!

Stop diplomatic protection of the junta!

Anandi Guggenheim arrived from Jerusalem to participate in the protest. She said in an interview, "I've studied Buddhist teachings in Myanmar that exclude any violence. There is always a peaceful way of resolving any problems."

Tsevang Nokvu Vivek is an international teacher of meditation. He came to Israel from the Himalayas only three weeks ago to teach meditation. He decided to take part in the protest at the Chinese embassy. He said,: "Good hearted monks from Myanmar have addressed the military junta requesting it reduce the tyranny, but tyrants never hear people, they only pursue their own interests. I believe that democratic forces will replace dictatorial regimes very soon."
