My older sister is the head of a government department in China, and is extremely wealthy. Let me give an example: her department paid roughly US$ 87,000 towards an apartment that cost US$100,000. It was supposed to be a fringe benefit that she deserved as head of the department, but in reality it was a gift. That was several years ago and the apartment is now worth over US$125,000. My sister also owns a private house with a garden on the top floor and great views. She has a car and cash deposits of over US$125,000. As far as my sister is concerned, all the money she has made is totally legal, according to the Party's regulation. She's often said, "Leave this country? I wouldn't do it for anything…Where else would I be able to find these kinds of "fringe benefits" that let me frequent banquets and travel the world on government money?"
My sister was not only a millionaire, but also a loyal Chinese Communist Party member. Last year, while I was overseas, I read the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party . I heard that it's best for our future if we quit the CCP, so I called my sister. The minute I mentioned it, my sister started giving me a political lesson that I hadn't heard for so many years, but which still sounded so familiar. After that, she told me that her father-in-law fought so hard in the war and left their "achievements" for the next generation and that she should cherish it. She went on and on for over an hour about how magnificent, glorious, and righteous the CCP is.
From an early age I have believed in fortune-telling, feng shui, and prophesy. In the past I had heard many prophesies that "heaven will destroy the CCP" and "one can stay safe by quitting the CCP." After reading the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party I quickly helped my family quit the CCP. Quitting was free anyway and I had nothing to lose. My family—more than a dozen of them—all quit the CCP without hesitation, except for my sister. A few months ago, a family member told me my sister found a copy of the Nine Commentaries and was reading it. I was surprised and called her immediately. This totally scared my sister because she thought her phone was being tapped. Although I still have a mortgage to pay and I don't have nearly as much savings as my sister, there is finally one thing I have that she doesn't—freedom. That night, my sister asked a family member to relay a message to me asking how to quit the CCP. My sister didn't want to leave any trace of personal information that might put her in jeopardy. I told my sister to just give me a name that she acknowledges. She immediately gave me a nickname and I helped her quit the CCP.
The one thing that the CCP fears most had happened – my sister quit the CCP after reading the Nine Commentaries . Their most loyal member who had received so many benefits from the CCP quit the Party after reading the Nine Commentaries. No wonder the CCP bans the Nine Commentaries . The authorities forget that the Chinese people are curious—the more you want them to remember and learn, the more they slack off in doing so. For example, when the CCP asked its members to "keep the Party's advanced nature," most people just gossiped in class or did other totally irrelevant things . On the other hand, what the CCP wanted to ban, the Nine Commentaries , is something that people would try everything possible to find out about and do a little research on it. And just like that, the book dissolves their stubborn pro-CCP minds.
