On September 10 hundreds of New York citizens gathered together for a parade and rally expressing their support for the over 13 million people who have withdrawn from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and called for the rescue of renowned Chinese human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng who has been arrested by the CCP. Following is the speech given by Epoch Times Vice-Chairman Huang Wanqing at the gathering.
Welcome everyone. Today I want to share with you some of the true stories that have occurred in China, which perhaps you are not very familiar with. I also want to introduce to you truly national heroes like attorney Gao Zhisheng.
The Story of Attorney Gao
When The Epoch Times was first introduced there were many Chinese citizens and freelance writers who wrote for the newspaper. They spoke out for both citizens and socially disadvantaged groups in China. All their articles were quite convincing. The writers include Zhang Lin, Zheng Yichun, attorney Gao, and other columnists.
As you all know, Gao Zhisheng was recently arrested by the Chinese Communist Party because of his daring opinions and the appeals he made for Falun Gong and socially disadvantaged groups. If you have been reading our newspaper, you would have noticed that we had a series of interviews with attorney Gao. Gao lives in Beijing and below his residence there were always ten or dozens spies everyday. The spies followed Gao and his family everywhere, sometimes beating Gao, and even making car accidents to threaten him.
Nevertheless, according to videos, photos and documents we've received from China, we can see that even under such violent situations the attorney Gao still showed no signs of fear, and courageously exposed in detail the oppression of the CCP, and the evil of the spies. Most of these incidents are documented in his book, which is being sold for charity at the Boda Bookstore, and at the Global Service Center for Quitting the CCP. Why does Gao Zhisheng have so much courage? It is just as the title of the book says, God is Fighting Shoulder to Shoulder with Us. Just like Falun Gong practitioners these freelance writers and these people are full of righteous thoughts, ideals, hopes, aspirations, and the love of China and of its people.
These people have openly supported the Nine Commentaries and the idea of resigning from the CCP. After the Nine Commentaries were published, along with the wave of people withdrawing from the CCP, there was also a wave of people voicing out their opinions, uncovering the evil of the Party, and condemning the evil CCP wrongdoers. Aside from attorney Gao Zhisheng there are also Zhang Lin and Zheng Yichun who are both famous freelance writers in the world. They were both in China using their pens to publicize the Nine Commentaries, however, the CCP could not tolerate such freedom of speech, as a result, they were respectively sentenced to five and seven years of prison terms.
The Authenticity of the Number of Resignations from the CCP
Next I'd like to talk about a veteran pilot named Yuan Sheng who once worked for China Eastern Airlines. When in China at an airport, Yuan Sheng talked to a man from his native province about the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. Because of this conversation, Chinese policemen detained and questioned Yuan Sheng. Fearing the persecution awaiting him should he return to China, Yuan Sheng had no choice but to stay in the United States and seek asylum. Many people don't believe Yuan Sheng's story. They don't believe that the CCP persecutes people for spreading about the Nine Commentaries. But Zhang Lin and Zheng Yichun, whom I mentioned before, were sentenced to long-term imprisonment for supporting the Nine Commentaries as stated in their verdicts. So, you see, such things are really happening in China.
Why is the CCP so scared? [Because they know that] it is true that close to 14 million Chinese people have declared resignations from the CCP and its affiliated organization. According to insiders at the Chinese Public Security Bureau, shortly after the Nine Commentaries was published, when the number of renunciation (from the CCP) declarations was not yet reaching one million, the CCP had already begun to secretly check each and every name in the declarations published on the Tuidang (Quit the CCP) website. We received detailed materials from the Tianjin Public Security Bureau, which showed that the Tianjin police were ordered to check all the names and see if those people were from Tianjin or from abroad.
Everyday, over 100 volunteers are working for Epoch Times Tuidang website, examining and posting resignation declarations from mainland China received through telephone, fax, email and other channels. All the volunteers are extremely responsible. Here is a true story about people resigning from the CCP. Our editor once received a massage declaring resignation for all the residents of a village in Inner Mongolia, over 1,000 people in total. It said that all the villagers got together and discussed resigning from the CCP and its affiliated organizations, and all agreed to resign. But these people have not been included in the current resignation number because the declaration did not specify the names of these 1,000 people. We kept the declaration as a record, and will add these people once we get their names.
The Poison of the Party Culture
Many people still do not believe that the CCP is so evil in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Let me show you the truth from my own experience. My younger brother, Huang Xiong, was illegally imprisoned for one and a half years in a forced labor camp in 2000, simply because he practiced Falun Gong. But the persecution did not change his faith. After he was released, he was forced to flee from home and lead a vagrant life since then to avoid further persecution. The police hunted him all over the country for over two years.
It has been over three years since we last heard from him in April 2003. My grandmother passed away a few days ago, on September 7. My brother and I were brought up by my grandmother. Grandma's last wish was to see my brother and me one more time before she died. But her wish never came true because of the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
Because of the CCP's persecution, thousands and thousands of Falun Gong practitioners in China have lost their homes or even their lives. Although things like the persecution and the Tiananmen Massacre happened right under people's noses, some people aren't inclined to believe, and still dare not believe that such bloody events are real. This is because the CCP has been brainwashing the Chinese people with Party Culture for scores of years. People have been deceived by the CCP's lies.
On September 9, 2006, The Epoch Times has issued an editorial series on "Dissolving the Party Culture."
