VANCOUVER , British Columbia — A pair of derailments have fouled the main lines of Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railways in British Columbia.
Eight cars of a CN grain train derailed Friday on CP's track near Lytton, British Columbia, while crews were still repairing damage from a nearby derailment Monday of a CP coal train on CN's main line.
The rival railroads share tracks through the area of the Fraser River Canyon east of Vancouver .
The cause of the derailments is unknown, but a safety official told local media that investigators were looking at rail failure as the cause of the first accident that sent several loaded coal cars off a bridge and into the river.
No injuries were reported.
The second accident came hours after railroad officials had met with residents of Lytton over local concerns that safety problems with CN were on the increase.
