There is no need to deduce what Gao Zhisheng's arrest implies about the factions within the Chinese Communist Party or the power struggle within. If there were forces in the party who wanted to protect Gao Zhisheng and if they could rescue him now, Gao would not have been abducted.
No need to place hopes that overseas human rights organizations and democratic countries will be able to influence the Chinese Communist Party. The regime puts out an attitude of "I am a ruffian and I am afraid of no one." Even if the U.S. did not have its hands full dealing with Iraq, North Korea and terrorist attacks, it is possible that open criticism might end up as a bargaining chip for an under-the-table deal (I mean the CCP might use Gao Zhisheng's relase as a condition to gain some other benefit).
The CCP must have weighed the pros and cons before deciding to abduct such a high-profile figure as Gao Zhisheng. It must have felt that the pros of such an action outweigh the cons.
In order to rescue Gao Zhisheng, we must first understand what the CCP is most afraid of. Working along this line, the CCP will feel that the disadvantages of detaining Gao Zhisheng far outweigh the benefits and Gao will be safe.
So what is the CCP most afraid of? The Quitting the CCP Campaign! The large-scale, organized, strategic Quit the Party movement happening in China at all levels yet not being able to catch anyone.
Everything Gao Zhisheng has done was simply to carry out a peaceful battle against the illegal actions of the CCP using the laws it has itself stipulated. The CCP has no recourse but to illegally detain someone like Gao. Doesn't this indicate that the autocratic system of this regime is on the verge of collapse? As a member of such an organization (or as one forced to be a member of it), what kind of future can you hope to, or are you able to get from a system that is about to collapse?
A wise man submits to circumstances. Once Gao Zhisheng's detention turns into a mass movement of quitting the party, it will hasten the disintegration of the CCP, which is what it fears the most. Once this movement reaches the critical point of the CCP's disintegration, there will be no need to talk about Gao Zhisheng's detention; conversely the regime itself will face judgment by its people and all accounts will be settled.
To create an impetus in China, I have designed a board for "Rescue Gao Zhisheng, Quit the CCP" (see photo above). When people all over China see posters with a blue-colored title on the streets from afar, it means that another person has quit the party as a form of support for the rescue of Gao Zhisheng, thereby encouraging more people to pay close attention to and participate in the rescue of Gao and quit all party activities. The bloodthirsty CCP will be drowned in a sea of blue posters.
In summary, the winning strategy to rescuing Gao Zhisheng does not lie overseas (of course those overseas should also work together) but in China. It does not lie with the top levels (of course those with a sense of justice in the top levels of the Chinese government should help,) but with the people. It does not lie with making appeals (of course this is still necessary) but in actions.
A small suggestion: When CCP members publish their renunciation, it would be a big encouragement to the public if they could state their official positions, such as bureau chief, section chief, committee member of political bureau, lieutenant, major etc.
