Ukrainian Scientists Do Not Believe Darwin's Theory of Evolution

In Ukrainian schools, not the Darwin's theory of evolution, but creationism that claims that the world had been created by the Supreme source, should be taught. This was declared recently by the Ukrainian scientists at a press conference in Kiev.

"It is impossible to raise one's conscience without belief. It is too naïve to think that it can be done by means of culture and art. If the person is brought up as the successor of animals, that is monkeys, he'll be like them," said Valentine Zhalko-Titarenko, the Senior Scientist from the Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases.

Scientists are perplexed as to why in Ukrainian schools the Darwin's theory of evolution is a preferred theory to be taught. In fact, it is only one of the theories about the origin of a man.

"Why is it that in our country, which is one of the most civilized countries in the world, there is only one approach, that is Darwin's theory? It is not a really democratic approach," believes Vladislav Olhovsky, the Department Chief from the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.

Scientists consider that today's textbooks are biased, they need changes, especially textbooks in biology, geography, astronomy and ancient history. The scientists already addressed this issue in their letter to the Ukrainian Ministry of Education. However, they received just "a formal reply."

"As a director, I can use any type of literature, but it should be authorized by the Ministry of Education," said Anatoly Shevchenko, the Rector of Donetsk State Institute for Artificial Intellect.

Creationism is a theory that denies most scientific data on evolution of the universe and life itself. Being a religious concept, creationism, nevertheless, claims to be scientific. Time after time, this led to conflicts around the content of school educational programs.

Supporters of creationism criticize the hypothesis of an accidental germination of life, and assert that contemporary biology cannot explain the origin of life and human mind.
