Chinese lawyer Gao Zhisheng called for relay hunger strikes across China in order to non violently resist China's abysmal human rights situation. Since starting on February 4, the hunger strikes have spread to ten provinces. I have followed Mr. Gao's work closely. I have been working to end the persecution of Falun Gong in China for six years, and in the process have come to deeply admire "the brilliance of Chinese culture and the nobility of the Chinese character", as Ethan Gutman says. As my love for the culture and people has grown, my horror and disgust at the cruelty of the Chinese Communist Party has also grown. That disgust reached a new level last Wednesday when my colleague Li Yuan was attacked here in Georgia. I will join the Relay Hunger Strike for Human Rights for 24 hours on Saturday, February 18.
I am doing this for three reasons:
1. To protest the vile attack on Dr. Li, which was meant to intimidate Epoch Times staff and to bring the persecution to my hometown.
2. To support Mr. Gao's call for a free China.
3. To show my heartfelt respect for the Chinese people.
Atlanta Epoch Times Staff are holding an event to protest the attack on Dr. Li from 4:00-5:00pm at Peachtree Library at 1315 Peachtree St, Atlanta, Ga. 30309. 404-885-7830. A Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party exhibit is also being shown there until March 1.
