Fourth Announcement for 2-8 and 2-9 from "Relay Hunger Strike for Human Rights Support Group"

Relay Hunger Strike for Human Rights Support Group
Feb 10, 2006

Renowned Chinese human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng (The Epoch Times)

Statement One: Types of Announcements

Our support group will release consecutively numbered announcements whenever adding new targets to be supported by the relay hunger strike. We will release special announcements to call for global attention if any target already on the list is being persecuted or persecuted again. We will release urgent announcements in case of important and emergency situations. In addition, we will publish statements and thoughts by members of the hunger strike support group every day, but will not include them in the announcements.

Statement Two: Our Operation Method

Our support groups started the relay hunger strike as soon as it was proposed. We do not have any organization. So far, we have received great support and responses from people both inside and outside China, and many aspects are dependent on the voluntarily coordination of enthusiastic people from all walks of life. We apologize if people have not been able to get through to sign up for the hunger strike. We will make a media announcement when legal and valid channels for signing up open. At this point, we very much appreciate your constant attention for the persecuted as well as your good suggestions. In order for everyone to live with dignity, let us pave the way for true peace and counter persecutions without violence. If the persecution does not stop, the hunger strike for human rights group will go on and on!

New Targets to Support

  • 1. Epoch Times IT Technician Dr. Li Yuan, Who Suffered a Violent Attack

The same violent persecution has even reached Chinese people outside of China. This shows how rampant the evil communist forces are. If we did not stand up and speak out, what would the earth be like in the future? Where will the Chinese people be safe? Where can Chinese people live with dignity and freedom? While focusing on the legal means, we propose to support our fellow Chinese by going on a hunger strike!

The incident: On February 8, Li Yuan was violently attacked at his home in Atlanta. He was severely wounded and received 15 stitches on his head. The thugs also stole two of his laptops, but left behind more valuable items.

The Cause: The Epoch Times has been reporting mainland Chinese people's human rights support events and the great CCP-Quitting surge caused by the publication of The Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party. Therefore, The Epoch Times has been pressured by the CCP. In addition, the CCP has violently threatened employees of the media many times. Recently, The Epoch Times has been reporting about the activities of the hunger strike for human rights supporting groups inside China and has been providing people from all walks of life with a platform to communicate with each other. This again prompted the evil forces' brutality. Li Yuan, as lead information technology specialist, has suffered a violent personal attack.

  • 2. Taishi Villagers, Including Wu Yaoqiu, Whose Fingers Were Cut Off

The violent persecution in Taishi has escalated. Currently, attorney Tang Jingling is also being shadowed. It is said that recently the Guangdong government authorities are preparing to eliminate the people of Taishi Village. Villagers are appealing to the outside world for attention and rescue.

The Incident: Wu Yaoqiu from Taishi Village was one of the villagers who participated in the motion to reall Taishi viilage cadres and was recorded by the government. AFP and other foreign media have published his photo. At 8:22 p.m. on February 8, when Wu was conducting his motorcycle transport business, someone came up and stabbed him with a knife. Two fingers on Wu's right hand were cut off and he was also stabbed twice in the back. He is currently in a hospital for bone setting. Wu said, "I didn't know what happened. I was just standing there and chatting with somebody. All of a sudden, I was stabbed. I couldn't catch the criminal, so I shouted loudly. A few people started to chase him, but couldn't catch him. I am not clear about the reason. I have never offended anyone before."

Recently, when the human rights supporter Guo Feixiong managed to avoid the blockade and return to Taishi Village, Wu Yaoqiu transported him. Wu's wife, Ma Jinlian, thought this had something to do with him being stabbed.

Targets of Support for Relay Hunger Strike: Guo Feixiong, Chen Guangcheng and Villagers from Linyi City

  • 1. Regarding Guo Feixiong

Current situation: He is imprisoned and is on a hunger strike, his status is unknown

On February 8, Guo Feixiong went to Xinhuamen to hold a hunger strike to protest the Chinese communist regime's criminal and violent treatment towards Chinese citizens. Guo was arrested by Beijing police and is imprisoned at Beijing's Fuyou Street Police Station. Friends from his law circle and Guo Feixiong's relatives called the police office that evening and asked about Guo Feixiong's whereabouts. However, the police on duty would not take the calls and asked the operators to tell them that he has no comments and to call Guo Feixiong's cell phone. Guo's cell phone was always turned off.

  • 2. Regarding Chen Guangcheng, Du Dehai, Chen Hua, and villagers who are persecuted in Linyi City, Shandong Province

Current situation: Chen Guangcheng was besieged at the house of his neighbor, whose telephone was cut off; therefore, Chen was unable to communicate with the outside world. On the morning of February 9, Chen's wife was put under house arrest. There are still a large amount of police and dozens of local thugs in the village.

Du Dehai, the villager whose skull was cracked by police received a 1000 yuan (about US $125) for medical expense from the police office on the first day, but the payment stopped the next day. The hospital also terminated Du's medical treatment.

Chen Hua is still imprisoned. Chen Hua's grandmother was so angry that she fainted and now cannot walk. Some villagers are still on a hunger strike. The government of Linyi published an announcement that completely glossed over the truth.
