New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) successfully ended its Christmas Holiday Wonders show at Broadway last week, and will soon launch the Global Chinese New Year Spectacular. The first show of the world tour will be in Vancouver, Canada on Wednesday, January 3.
Zhou Yu, the Global Chinese New Year Spectacular main coordinator, told The Epoch Times that the feedback from different organizing cities shows the overall state of affairs is very good.
Continuing in the same trend as the previous three Chinese New Year shows organized by NTDTV, the 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular will again show the broad and profound culture of China, the Divine Land. Various kinds of theatrical and artistic styles are used to elucidate the concepts behind traditional Chinese culture: the admiration of Gods and the upholding of morality. At the same time the show combines artistry from both the West and the East, giving the audience an opportunity to experience a culture different from their own.
A Grand Performing Tour of Unprecedented Size
Under the supervision of Zhou Yu, a team of over 100 performers has been assembled. The group will perform in 76 shows worldwide on 4 continents. The show is estimated to reach an audience of 150,000 to 200,000 people and is scheduled to play in all major cities where a large Chinese community exists: 14 cities in North America, two cities in the Europe, five cities in Australia, six cities in Taiwan, two cities in Japan, and Korea, totaling 30 cities.
"The number of shows for the Spectacular will be more than last year in all the cities and there will be at least two shows in each city. The influence of the show is growing worldwide and we believe that in the future the scale will be even bigger." Zhou Yu said.
Zhou Yu indicated that there are many sponsors in each of the hosting cities. The Spectacular has received more and more attention and support, including government officials, media and businessmen. Many media outlets have become sponsors of the Spectacular.
Jin Cong, New Year Spectacular Canadian coordinator, said that this year's shows in Toronto have received support from well-known international companies. Canada's biggest TV station, newspaper and radio station, as well as other Canadian media, are all offering sponsorships.
"The gala has been accepted by overseas Chinese society. There are a lot of Chinese people in Ottawa and they have given great support to the Spectacular. Toronto is also a commercial centre; lots of companies in financial areas are helping us sell tickets or offering a place for us to promote tickets." Jin Cong said.
To Spread Traditional Chinese Culture
Why has the Chinese New Year Spectacular become so popular and grown larger in scale?
Zhou Yu said the main reason is because NTDTV is doing the right thing by showcasing traditional Chinese culture – something that has never been done before. The Spectacular aims to spread Chinese traditional culture and traditional concepts of human values and morality. The meaning behind traditional Chinese culture is broad and profound, but in the past 50 years, this culture has been ruined by the Chinese communist regime. Material desires have surfaced everywhere in society and there is no more spiritual culture left in China. NTDTV, however, aspires to showcase the beauty and true traditional Chinese culture for people around the world to see with the Chinese New Year Spectacular. The Spectacular's intention is to move people's hearts.
