Only three days remain until the Broadway opening of Holiday Wonders, sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television. New York's Broadway will welcome an Eastern style Christmas program on Dec. 19 for the first time.
Holiday Wonders has attracted the attention of major Western media. Between Dec. 9 and 11, The Daily News, with a daily distribution nearing 700,000, sent out a mobile display vehicle with a huge Holiday Wonders signboard to cruise Manhattan's streets and deliver the message.
On Broadway, huge posters of the Holiday Wonders can be seen everywhere. Americans who love traditional Chinese culture have also participated in the lion dance and drum beating, leading the cheers for the evening program.
The 2006 New York "New Tang Dynasty Chinese New Year Spectacular" received the honor of reaching seventh place in the monthly rating from Billboard magazine, and was ranked as one of the top ten programs by Radio City—a first for a Chinese program and a first in Broadway production history.
Mr. Duan, a 65-year-old immigrant from China who lives in Flushing, said that, although he had lived in the United States for 16 years, his memory of Christmas every year was always about family gatherings. This kind of large-scale performance allows overseas Chinese to appreciate and recollect their traditional Chinese cultural heritage, and is the first such program ever on Broadway.
