Amid apprehensions over law and order problems when the sealing drive resumes, Government today decided to move the Supreme Court in a bid to put off sealing of nearly 44,000 business establishments from November one.
"The MCD and the Urban Development Ministry will move the Supreme Court to plead for relief to small traders," Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy told reporters after a 90-minute meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil.
Asked when the court would be moved, Reddy said "the law officials will decide on this." In the meantime, the Government has decided to finalise the Delhi Master Plan 2021 by January next year to avoid any adhoc approach for development of the national capital, Reddy said.
He as well as Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit parried reply to a specific query whether sealing would resume from November one. "Everything including law and order will be taken care of. We will ensure that people do not face problem and at the same time, Supreme Court is complied with," she said.
In view of the three-day traders' strike beginning on October 30 against the sealing, all schools in the national capital would remain closed on Monday, Dikshit said.
The decision was taken after Patil's direction to Union Home Secretary V K Duggal to take charge of the law and order in view of the strike.
"We do not want to take any chance," Dikshit said on the decision.
