As London recovers from the terrorist attack of July 7, nearly everyone has fingered al Qaeda as the culprit. This is true, as far as it goes. Al Qaeda itself has claimed responsibility for the attack, and has proved to everyone why the War on Terror must continue until Osama bin Laden and his cohorts are defeated.
However, those who are willing to leave it at al Qaeda do not nearly go far enough. Although the attack in London was not nearly as sophisticated as either the March 11, 2004 attack in Madrid or the September 11, 2001 attack against New York and Washington, it did require organization, timing, planning, and money. This could not be accomplished by an organization scrambling for its own survival in Afghanistan or western Pakistan. With this attack, al Qaeda has revealed that they have a new base of operations from which it can continue to strike against the free world. Increasingly, it is becoming clear that this base is in Iran, which means al Qaeda is surviving, and recovering, at the behest of the Iranian mullahcracy’s geopolitical ally and military benefactor: the Chinese Communist Party.
It is no secret that the CCP terrorizes its own people, and to those knowledgeable on the subject, the Party’s anti-Americanism is also a given. However, very few are aware of how deep the Communists’ ties to international terrorism go – and that general ignorance is no accident. It is part and parcel of the Communist strategy against America. As Kevin Spacey’s character in The Usual Suspects put it, “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” The Chinese Communist Party is attempting the same trick with its ties to terrorism, but without the same success: those ties are still there for all to see.
The Communists have laundered Osama bin Laden’s drug money for him through their numerous financial fronts in stock markets around the world. They signed an economic agreement with his Taliban hosts the day the World Trade Center fell. They installed a fiber-optic network in Iraq to help Saddam Hussein integrate his entire defense network, and then sold him missile gyroscopes and other military technology for oil-for-food vouchers. They have a long history of economic and military ties to Syria, whose Ba’athist regime has been a Hezbollah protector and ally for years. In fact, Syria was the host of current Communist leader Hu Jintao when he called Israel a “colonialist plot aimed at detaching from the Arab nation a part that is dear to it – Palestine.” The Communists have also been instrumental in the Iranian mullahcracy’s efforts to become a nuclear power, despite – or more likely, because of – the Islamic regime’s aid and comfort to al Qaeda operatives, including many of the 9/11/01 terrorists themselves.
For Communist China, this continuing support for terrorists striving to kill Americans is no fluke, for the Communists’ entire geopolitical strategy is designed to damage and, eventually, subdue the United States. So long as America remains the “shining city on the hill,” the Communists will try to snuff it out. The conquest of democratic Taiwan and eclipsing of Japan and India as the lead Asian powers are merely steps to world domination, for that is the only goal that will satisfy the radical nationalism the Communists are stoking to distract the Chinese people from the endemic corruption, horrifying persecution, and crippling poverty the CCP has forced upon them. As such, Communist China will never stop working against America; nor will the regime cease from supporting her terrorist enemies.
During the First Cold War, between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, Moscow outsourced a good deal of its operations to its Cuban satellite state. The Communists in Angola, Nicaragua, and El Salvador were all clients of Havana, but everyone rightly pointed to Moscow as the ultimate beneficiary and benefactor of these forces.
America is now in the midst of the Second Cold War against Communist China, whose direct support of terrorist sponsors such as Iran and Syria is in fact indirect support for the al Qaeda terrorists who killed scores of Londoners, hundreds of Spaniards, and thousands of Americans. Any claim to the contrary is belied by the fact that the Communists have also been willing to directly support al Qaeda.
The War on Terror has become a part of Communist China’s battle against the U.S., and is now one of the many theaters in Cold War II. America, the United Kingdom, and the rest of the free world will never be secure until the Chinese Communist Party joins its Soviet and Eastern European brethren on the ash heap of history. Until that day comes, the War on Terror cannot and will not be won.
