LEEDS, England - Armed police hunting suspected al Qaeda bombers who carried out attacks in London last week that killed at least 52 people, raided a house in the northern English city of Leeds on Tuesday.
A police officer at the scene told reporters the army had carried out a controlled explosion to gain entry to the property to search it for explosives.
Firearms officers were brought in as a precaution but the house was unoccupied, he added.
Officers evacuated hundreds of people from their homes in surrounding streets in the city center.
Earlier detectives raided five other houses around Leeds which they described as a "significant" part of the investigation into the London bombings last Thursday.
The police officer said some material had been seized from these five properties but could not elaborate.
No arrests have been made yet.
