I was Asked to Be a Spy for the Chinese Communist Party

By Liang Yu

During 1992 and 1993 I went through the process of applying to leave China. The application procedure was slow and that frustrated me. When I met up with my friends, I naturally talked to them about my application and told them frankly that I did not appreciate the efficiency of the Chinese government’s administration.

Several days later, a man who claimed to be a friend of a friend called me and said he wanted to discuss something in detail with me. He immediately came to my house and introduced himself as being part of Guangzhou city’s police department. Right away he told me, “If you’d like us to help you with your application, I can guarantee that you get the visa within a month.” When he heard that I was applying to go to Australia, he disapprovingly said, “What good is it to go to Australia? I can help you to go to the U.S. When you get there, you just have to promise to keep in touch with us. Usually we won’t bother you, but if we need you, we will contact you.”

When I did not say anything, he tried to persuade me further, “You don’t have to worry too much. Maybe we’ll never contact you for the rest of your life. This job may sound unpleasant, but being a spy benefits our entire country. I’ll tell you, the number of people who have gone overseas with my help is huge. Think about it!”

My mother firmly opposed his deal. I shuddered with fear when I thought that a shadow would follow me for the rest of my life. I could receive a phone call at any time, and be asked to do check up on someone and make a report. Those being spied on are all those disliked by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). I felt stifled, as if a hand was clutching at my heart. I would never do such a disgusting thing. The man came back several times, and did not give up until he saw that I was not interested at all.

How many innocent people in Australia and other countries have been asked by the CCP to do their spy work? And how many have unknowingly stepped into the CCP’s trap?

This is just the “peripheral organization” of the so-called intelligent network. How many more professional spies and intelligent agents are dispatched by the CCP? I think Mr. Chen Yongling’s statement of there being “over a thousand spies” in Australia is definitely supported by evidence.
