Global mourning for Zhao Ziyang provides a sharp contrast with the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) low key and terror atmosphere during Zhao’s farewell ceremony. Through reflections from his funeral, activities to remember Zhao Ziyang and “say ‘bye for good to the CCP” have reached a more rational height.

The CCP could only imprison Zhao Ziyang while he was alive, but they cannot imprison the awakening conscience of the Chinese nation that Zhao’s death prompted. Mourning Zhao Ziyang and saying bye for good to the CCP has become globally recognized.

The World is deeply sorrowful for the loss of Zhao Ziyang

Places all over the world have held many memorial ceremonies for Zhao Ziyang, including the United States, Canada, France, Great Britain, and New Zealand. Japan has held assemblies to “Mourn Zhao Ziyang, say ‘bye for good to the CCP” in abundance in order to remember Zhao’s merits and condemn the CCP’s tyranny.

At an assembly to mourn for Zhao in Washington DC with nearly 200 organizations present, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said, “Maybe in death his message will even be stronger than it was in life. Because the way [CCP] treated him and suppressed the news of his death and funeral, people over the world mourn even more deeply over the loss of Zhao.”

The United States government issued a statement to approve Zhao’s contributions and call him “brave.” Canadian Congressman Kenny went with a group to Beijing and personally visited to Fuqiang Alley to mourn for Zhao.
A mainland and overseas united political group said that they plan to build a Zhao Ziyang library, museum, website, and so on to commemorate him. Zhao Ziyang is the pride of the people and still lives in their hearts.

CCP’s weak political power is revealed

Close to a thousand appealers were arrested, many objecting personages faced short-term imprisonment. Ding Zilin and other June 4 victims were under house arrest, and the memorial ceremony for Zhao Ziyang at Babao Mountain was heavily guarded. Public figures inside and outside the Mainland all view this as the manifestation of the CCP’s political weakness.

Professor Wu Guoguang, who has a Ph. D. in political science, said, “The political power has weakened to this state yet they still boast their decision 16 years ago was correct. If it were correct, then why is the CCP this fearful? It is unbelievable weakness and brutality.”

People have said farewell and protect Zhao Ziyang at Babao Mountain, Fuqiang Alley, on the streets, in villages and on the Internet. Facing tens of thousands of police, people are still willing to take risks of job loss, imprisonment, and having their family broken up, which show their strength and commitment.

On February 1, an editorial from the Washington Post regarding the strict control of Zhao Ziyang’s funeral said, “This is the typical behavior of an isolated and weak totalitarian regime that fears that the slightest crack in its control over society could lead to its own collapse.”

The CCP is more frightened of Zhao Ziyang’s Spirit

An article in The New York Times, “China's Fear of Ghosts: Balancing Stability and Dissent” says, “An overwhelming police presence and careful vetting of the guest list prevented open expressions of dissent. Yet the tightly restricted event - scores of opposition figures were kept under guard and barred from attending - underscored how much the party lives in fear of its own historical ghosts.”

House Minority leader Nancy said, “…they feared him in death, they feared him in life…But the more they tried to suppress his message and his courage, the stronger they make him.”
An article said that the CCP is more afraid of Zhao Ziyang now that he has passed away because his death opened people’s eyes.

“Say ‘bye for good to the CCP

Political commenter Jia Lingfeng said, “The publication of ‘Nine Commentaries on the CCP’ in November by Epoch Times expanded into a global ‘say ‘bye for good to the CCP’ movement. At first, the profound meaning was not understood, but after the CCP-controlled ‘memorial ceremony,’ the importance of saying farewell to the CCP is finally understood.”

Toronto China Clubhouse’s president Mr. Hong said that Mr. Zhao Ziyang used the last 15 years of his life to make it clear to the Chinese people to defend their conscience and say ‘bye for good to the CCP.

High tide of resignations from the CCP still continues

On February 1, roughly a half-month after Zhao Ziyang’s death on January 17, the number of people who issued statements of resignation from the CCP has reached 2810, with an average of 187 per day. The statements of resignation came mainly from people in mainland China.

Mr. Han from Shandong said, “From the years I have worked in finance, financial reports from every month and year were all decided by the leaders. The numbers are all fabricated and may have no truth to them. The Epoch Time’s special edition ‘The Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party’ revealed the true nature of the CCP, a group of people engaged in indecency, corruption, embezzlement, and stopping at no evil. I do not want to stay in this big dye vat so I decide to resign from the CCP.”
