I am a Falun Gong practitioner. During my studies abroad, I returned to my native China during a vacation. Because I practice Falun Gong, when I arrived in China, I was sent to a forced labor camp where I was persecuted for almost two years. Today, I feel I am speaking for all the Chinese people who have been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
I studied science and engineering and performed well in my work and studies. I was not interested in politics. I was a freshman at Tsinghua University in 1989 during the historic Tiananmen Square Democratic Movement. The CCP massacred many people. From then on, I doubt that any student studying at a college in Beijing had any hope for the government or the country.
College students either leave China to look for freedom and happiness in other countries or if they cannot go abroad, they think about nothing but making money. I did not have any hope for China then either. However, in 1994, I learned Falun Gong. Since I started practicing Falun Gong, I have changed a lot, both in mind and body. The Falun Gong practitioners around me changed a lot, too. I also saw the changes Falun Gong brought to Chinese society and to the minds of the Chinese people. The Falun Gong principles—Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance— are what Chinese society needs most because the Great Cultural Revolution eradicated the morals and beliefs of the Chinese people. I saw the hope of China in Falun Gong, probably the last hope for China.
At the end of 1999, when I returned to China from Ireland during a school break, the CCP had started its oppression of Falun Gong. Although I knew what kind of government the CCP was, I still had to do something for the last hope of China. Thus, I went to the Government Office of Appeals (GOA) and prepared to speak up for Falun Gong.
I was arrested in the GOA. Afterwards, I was sent to a forced labor camp where I suffered horribly. I was helped by many kind people during the time I was in the labor camp. It's hard for people who have not been tortured themselves to imagine that such evil things are still happening today. Five of my friends were tortured to death during those years. They were all innocent citizens, tortured to death only because they practiced Falun Gong. I have told about some of my experiences on different occasions. Today, I would like to tell the story of a Falun Gong practitioner who was imprisoned with me and was murdered by police.
His name was Han Junqing. He was originally a farmer in the Fangshan district of Beijing. He was very strong and was once a ruffian in the local area. After learning Falun Gong, he became thoroughly changed. He no longer bullied others but instead helped others. When the suppression of Falun Gong started in 1999, he also appealed in Beijing and was sent to a forced labor camp, the same camp I was in.
The CCP calls what happens in labor camps "the transformation of thoughts." These words are not simply a slogan but the most evil concept in human history. This means that torture is used to transform people into puppet machines without a conscience so that they can be used as instruments to harm others. They want to force all Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief in Falun Gong. They call that "transformation."
At first, the police could not transform Han by any means. Then, the vicious police in the forced labor camp developed a way to transform Falun Gong practitioners. When human beings are under ceaseless torture and threats, it's easy for them to look for any opportunity to stop the torture. The guards made up lies and distorted facts to deceive Falun Gong practitioners. The guards said that, based on the principles of Falun Gong, practitioners should be transformed. Their cunning deceptions successfully transformed Han.
Once people give up their true selves, they can go to extreme and become very violent. Han thus transformed many other Falun Gong practitioners with violence. All his old habits when he was ruffian before he practiced Falun Gong returned to him, and he did many bad deeds.
After he was released, he had the chance to join other Falun Gong practitioners and read articles on the Internet about all the torture that practitioners everywhere had suffered. From that he knew he had been deceived. He had a lot of regret and decided to continue practicing Falun Gong.
He bought a copy machine to print material for telling the truth about the persecution against Falun Gong, and he distributed the materials. Later, police arrested him again. This time, he refused to be transformed and refused to harm other practitioners. Because he refused to harm others, he was tortured to death.
Han's story is a microcosm of good and evil during the persecution. Falun Gong turned a ruffian into a good person. The CCP threw this good person into jail and turned him back into a ruffian. When the ruffian got out of the jail, Falun Gong made him a good person again, so the police sent him to jail once more. When the police could no longer transform this person, now resolute in his goodness, back into a ruffian, they murdered him.
You have seen those shocking pictures accompanying this article. The persecution not only concerns the torture and abuse of Falun Gong practitioners in jails, however. There are an estimated one hundred million people practicing Falun Gong. It's impossible for policemen to persecute so many people. In fact, the CCP had to mobilize the entire country to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The CCP used everyone in China to attack Falun Gong. It instigated such extreme violence and hatred by means of the media.
I regard all of China as an immense forced labor camp. All the people in China are forced to hurt each other by means of lies and the threat of violence. When I joined the meeting of International Law and Spiritual Health in Paris, I said that the biggest cause of psychosis in China is the fear people feel under the rule of the CCP.
Today, I am joining the seminar on the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. I think that the Nine Commentaries should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In a country with such a large population, it is shocking to see that traditional morals have been replaced by so much hatred. This situation will become a huge threat to the peace of the world. The western democratic countries always try to influence China through trade, talks, and various kinds of communications. They hope China will thus become a free and democratic country. However, it's hard to change China through external measures because the entire population of China, from elementary school onward, has been instilled with poison by the deceptive textbooks of the CCP.
The Nine Commentaries is helping people recover from the loss of traditional morals, culture, and history through rational analysis. The series of editorials helps people realize how the CCP destroys all good qualities in society. With this understanding, people will no longer listen to the CCP, and they will no longer injure each other. I heard that CDs of the Nine Commentaries are hot on the black market of pirated CDs in China. The Nine Commentaries is a prairie fire of hope that is lighting up China. Like the seminar today, we will continue to talk about it, and the fire will spread. Finally, China will change.
