The farewell ceremony for Zhao Ziyang, former General Secretary of the CCP, was held at 9am on January 29, 2005 at the First Hall in the Babaoshan Revolutionary Public Cemetery. Reporters from Sound of Hope International Radio called Zhao Ziyang’s daughter Wang Yannan at 3pm. Wang told them that she had returned home from the ceremony, and brought her father’s ashes back home. In the brief interview, Wang repeated that she could not release any information. Zhao’s family appeared to be still under great pressure. The following is the manuscript of the interview.

Reporter: Hello! Are you Ms. Wang Yannan?
Wang Yannan: Yes.

Reporter: I am a reporter from Sound of Hope International Radio. Can we interview you?
Wang: I don’t think it’s convenient.

Reporter: There will be a big memorial ceremony for Mr. Zhao Ziyang in Washington D.C. tomorrow. Would your family like to express any opinions?
Wang: I don’t think it’s convenient for us to say anything.

Reporter: Can you tell us briefly about today’s farewell ceremony?
Wang: It’s not convenient for us to disclose anything.

Reporter: Is the farewell ceremony finished? Are you home yet?
Wang: I have returned home.

Reporter: How about Mr. Zhao Ziyang’s ashes? Did you bring it home or leave it in Babaoshan?
Wang: We didn’t leave it in Babaoshan. We took it home. Well, thank you. That’s all.
