The memorial of deposed Chinese Communist Party leader Zhao Ziyang, who died on Jan. 17, will take place on Saturday, according to an AFP report that cited confirmation from both Zhao’s family and government officials. "It's happening on the 29th, that's true," said a family member.
Zhao's daughter, Wang Yannan, requested that the memorial service be held on Saturday or Sunday, but as Associated Press reported earlier today quoting Frank Lu, a Hong Kong-based activist who talks regularly to Zhao's family, many details have yet to be finalized, including the official guest list and assessment of Zhao’s career and life, which is important in terms of maintaining Zhao’s reputation after his death
Informed sources inside the Chinese government said that the memorial would be held at 9 or 9:30 a.m., Beijing time on Saturday at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in the west suburb of Beijing.
According to a report from the Chinese-language version of The Epoch Times, people who will attend the memorial include government officials, Zhao’s former subordinates, such as former Vice Chairman of the People's National Congress Tian Jiyun, and distinguished guests from Hong Kong.
