According to sources inside Vietnam, on Aug 23, 2008, a Falun Gong adherent was arrested by security guards at the Ly Thai To Statute Monument in Hoan Kiem county, Hanoi, Vietnam, where his group gathered to hand out flyers to Chinese toursits. The group activity was intended to tell the Chinese tourists about the persecution of Falun Gong in China by the Chinese Communist Regime (CCP).

The Falun Gong adherent, who remains anonymous, was confronted by security guards after angry reactions by Chinese tourists. He was reportedly held at a temporary detention center one night for preliminary interrogation then transferred to a county prison for further interrogation the next day. He was released on Aug 25 after he was reportedly forced to sign a “statement of consent” to not get involved with any Falun Gong activity.

Falun Gong adherents are heavily persecuted in China by the CCP. According to the Falun Dafa Information Center, over 3,000 adherents have died since the persecution started in July 1999, and hundreds of thousands have been put in labor camp where they face abuse and torture.

Although the Falun Gong spiritual practice is practiced freely around the world outside China, it is not uncommon for adherents to face harassment or detainment in countries within the “sphere of influence” of the CCP.

The Falun Gong adherent who was detained could not be reached since his release.
