FLUSHING, New York City—A forum opposing the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) infiltration into overseas Chinese communities was held at the China Democracy Journal office in Flushing on September 14. Community members and experts delivered speeches that analyzed various strategies used by the CCP’s United Front Work Department. Their comments were related to the defeat of Ellen Young, whom they deemed as a pro-CCP politician, in the primary election for the Democratic Party nomination.
The infiltration of the Chinese Communist Party into overseas Chinese communities has caused great concerns since the Flushing incident began in May, in which the CCP mobilized large numbers of pro-communist thugs to attack, besiege, and verbally abuse Falun Gong practitioners in Flushing, New York City.
The chairman of China Democracy Party World Union Wang Jun, pointed out that the failed election of "pro-CCP" politician Ellen Young was expected. Wang said people should not have expected that Ellen Young would do anything for the community. Considering her history in business locally, where she charged an exorbitant management fee for the building where she lives, yet the management appears to be the worst. The sanitary facilities have not been upgraded for years. But Young did nothing to improve this situation.
Wang also said that people’s feedback was very positive about the Recall Committee of two local Chinese politicians which did a good job convincing voters not to vote for Young and commented that the election results represent Flushing residents’ choice.
CCP's Attack on Falun Gong
Wang said, “On May 17, the CCP gathered accomplices to attack a Quit the CCP assembly held by Falun Gong practitioners and democratic activists. Many residents were afraid of the power of the CCP. Some members of the Democratic Party even quit our party. However, reports from the independent media such as The Epoch Times and New Tang Dynasty TV turned the situation around and a fundamental change occurred thereafter. We especially appreciate those reporters who persist in doing interviews despite the dangerous situation, which helps reestablish calm in Flushing.”
Former Law lecturer Liu Guohua, member of the Recall Committee of the two local Flushing politicians, pointed out that it was a risky card the CCP played to push the two "pro-CCP" politicians to the front stage with pro-communist public statements when the Flushing incident was almost at an end. If the card doesn’t work, the CCP will have a huge loss. They’ll lose many covert resources that they’ve managed and infiltrated for a long time, he said.
He also revealed that Young thought that she would absolutely win before the election, so she booked a restaurant floor for the celebration. However, after the election, Young’s team could not understand why they lost so badly “without any indication.” Wang said election was a victory for Flushing residents who support justice as well as electing Grace Meng.
Turning Hearts Back to the CCP
Chang Kuo-wei, president of the Alumni association of the Central Military Academy in the United States, showed many cards he has received over the past few decades. The cards are all from lobbyists or Chinese communist cadres who were trying to make contact with him under the guidance of China's United Front Work Department (UFWD).
He recalled that an alumnus introduced him to two officials in the Chinese consulate. These people were particularly polite. They wanted to become friends with him with ulterior motives. There were several such occurrences. Some even proposed organizing groups for him to visit China. When someone mentioned that the UFWD would receive them once they arrive in China, Chang was alerted.
He concluded the strategy of the UFWD was first targeting useful people, then befriending them while imperceptibly injecting the CCP’s poison into them, and lastly, changing their will and deeds to conform to that of the CCP’s.
Liu Guohua said that despite the CCP’s infiltration into the community, other ethnic residents in the Flushing community have a clear understanding about the incident. People can judge this from the results of the election, he said.
