A Californian man, distressed by financial woes is believed to have shot and killed his wife, his three sons, his mother-in-law, and then killed himself inside a house located in an upscale community neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, police said on Monday.
The gunman, 45, identified as Karthik Rajaram, worked for major accounting firms including Price Waterhouse and Sony Pictures before becoming unemployed.
Despondent over his financial situation, the business school graduate Rajaram, left three letters before the “murder-suicide” event, in which he attested to the family’s financial difficulties, according to police.
The police found Rajaram’s wife, 39, mother-in-law, 69, and his three sons 19, 12 and seven-years-old dead, with some of the victims shot more than once, with no signs of struggle.
The shootings were discovered Monday morning after a neighbor called the police and reported that the wife who was supposed to give her a ride to work, did not show up.
Rajaram has no record of mental illness and had not sought treatment for mental health problems.
