DALLAS—Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones will miss the rest of the season because of a toe injury, the team said on Thursday.

Jones, a first-round pick in the 2008 draft, has been placed on injured reserve to have surgery to repair a torn ligament under his left big toe.

The former All-American, who has rushed for 266 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season, suffered the injury during rehabilitation work on a partially torn hamstring.

In his absence, the Cowboys will rely on Pro Bowl starter Marion Barber for their rushing attack with likely back-up from rookie Tashard Choice.

Jones recorded the first regular-season kickoff return touchdown for Dallas since 2003 in a 41-37 win against the Philadelphia Eagles in September.
