NEW YORK—Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy is expected to be sidelined for between one and two months after having knee surgery on Thursday, the team said.

Roy, the NBA's rookie of the year in 2006-07, had arthroscopic surgery to repair a partial tear in the meniscus of his left knee.

"We are looking forward to Brandon making a full recovery and expect him to be ready for the start of the regular season," Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said in a statement.

Roy, the number six overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2006 draft, averaged 19.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists for Portland last season.
