Actors Carlos and Alexa PenaVega, known for their roles on the Nickelodeon sitcom “Big Time Rush” and the “Spy Kids” film series, respectively, are grieving the loss of their fourth child.

The husband and wife—who wed in January 2014, merging their last names—took to social media on April 15 to share the devastating news that their daughter, Indy, was stillborn.

“There are never the right words to say when it comes to loss. After a beautiful and peaceful delivery our daughter ‘Indy’ was born at rest,” the couple penned in a joint Instagram post.

“It has been a painful journey. But in the pain we have found peace. God continues to comfort and hold us in his arms. The prayers from the community around us have been so sustaining in this difficult season,” they shared.

“This little girl has already changed our lives in so many ways. She was absolutely beautiful. And looked just like daddy. Dark hair and all. Grief has come to us in waves. Moments of feeling absolutely gutted... then moments of feeling blessed by just getting a moment with her,” the couple continued.

“We can’t understand why things like this happen and we may never get those answers. Indy Rex PenaVega, you completely changed our world. You moved us to a new place. You gave us the community we have been longing for. We love you can’t wait to see how many other lives you change,” they wrote, concluding their post.

Fourth Pregnancy

Mr. PenaVega, 34, and Mrs. PenaVega, 35, share three children, sons Ocean, 7, and Kingston, 4, and a daughter, Rio, who turns 3 in May.

Following their announcement in November that they were expecting a fourth child, the couple has been very open about the struggles they have experienced throughout the pregnancy, regularly sharing updates on their YouTube channel, La Vida PenaVega.

During a vlog published in January, Mrs. PenaVega shared that she experienced intense bouts of morning sickness during her first trimester. The following month, she recounted a troubling pregnancy scare in which she endured heavy bleeding that went on for several hours, the flow of which she likened to “seven periods.”

“It almost felt like a gushing feeling, kind of like my water breaking or something like that,” she said.

Mrs. PenaVega remembered experiencing slight bleeding during her third pregnancy, the result of a small tear, but noted the second time around felt very different.

“I mean, that was just a little bit of blood, and this time was, um, some gushing—it was continual blood,” she recalled, later sharing that an ultrasound uncovered a “massive” 4-centimeter tear, which she said later fully healed.

Throughout the distressing experience, Mrs. PenaVega said she turned to her faith for support and thanked God for her “amazing support system.”

“I think, in that moment, I was talking about having this peace that, like, God just allowed me to, you know, stay OK and stay confident in him because at the end of the day, it was out of my control,” she shared. “It was out of all of our control; there was nothing that we could do.”

Outpouring of Love

After sharing news of the loss of their daughter with their followers online, Mr. and Mrs. PenaVega were met with an outpouring of supportive messages.

Actress Candace Cameron Bure, known for her role on the ABC sitcom “Full House,” replied to their post, expressing her love for the couple and Indy. “We are praying for you and Los and the kids and the day you all reunite,” she wrote. “With all our hearts, we are here for you!!!!”

“Victorious” and “Zoey 101” actress Daniella Monet shared a similar sentiment, writing: “So so sorry Alexa and Carlos, can’t begin to imagine what this loss feels like. You are held, loved, and protected and you know that. Praying your pain away.”

“Twilight” star Nikki Reed also expressed sorrow over the couple’s loss. “Sending you both all of my love strength and prayers during this unimaginable time,” she wrote. “Wrapping my arms around your heart. I am so sorry.”

Professional dancer Derek Hough, known for his performances on “Dancing with the Stars,” commented: “Your words breathe Beauty and strength in a time of grief and loss. I am so sorry for your loss. May your hearts be filled with comfort.”

“Everyone at Great American Media sends our deepest condolences for you and your family,” noted an account for Great American Family. The family-oriented cable television network recently announced that the PenaVegas would be starring in an upcoming film, entitled “Mr. Manhattan,” set to premiere on its sister streaming service Great American Pure Flix on May 24.

Television personality Korie Robertson, wife of “Duck Dynasty” star Willie Robertson, also conveyed her sadness over the couple’s loss in an Instagram message, writing that she was heartbroken and “so thankful for Heaven.”
